I think it would lend itself well to an offline league.

Jason

Sounds good to me. Let me know how it would work.

Ted

The basic idea is that we each play storybook mode starting with the 50's era. We each pick a driver and run the four races in that era.  Post a screenshot of each of your finished races so we can see all of the drivers times and points.  We can average the other AI drivers and assign them each a aggregate time and the corresponding points that go with where their aggregate finishes compared to our times.  We would give ourselves the points we earned for our places among the aggregates.

If that four race series proves to be fun and we want to continue we will just work through the eras one at a time until we complete all of them or however many we want. If it's not that fun or interesting then oh well we tried.

No limit on mulligans so run the series as many times as you want until you're satisfied with your result.

Minimal time pressure.  We could say for the first era let's make the results due by end of April?

For a more interesting or team based idea we could choose the drivers that are on the same team and that way compete against each other but also try to win the team trophy as well.

If your kids are into the game maybe they'd like to join in and pick drivers too.

We can drill down further if you want.  Things like difficulty level, race length, qualifying, etc.

Jason

I like the idea of choosing drivers from the same team. Everyone is fictional, so it's not like I have preferred drivers. I usually pick my car by whatever paint scheme I like.

My kids hardly game anymore and don't like racing games anyway, so they're out.

I'll take a look at difficulty, race length, etc this weekend and throw out some suggestions. I'd prefer starting on a lower difficulty and move up as we progress. I don't know the race lengths off the top of my head, but I'd probably lean towards medium race length.

I'll save you a little legwork.

Medium length (at least in the 50s era) is from 5 to 15 laps depending on the track and the races are roughly 10 minutes long.  They require 1 pitstop and occasionally an extra pit if the rain starts or stops in between normal pitting, but that rarely happens to me.

Long is 7 to 17 laps and the races are less than 15 minutes, usually about 13.  They require 1 to 2 pit stops and occasionally  a 3rd pit, again weather timing dependent.

Re: difficulty.... I don't think we need to worry too much about that because I think that we could each play on whatever setting we prefer.  I've found that the difficulty only seem to affect driver times and not your own car.  Also, that was why I suggested unlimited mulligans, so that even if normal was a little too much at first you can run the series as many times as you want until you are happy with your results, as long as the results are submitted before the deadline.

I find normal a little too easy, but am happy to play there if you want to be on the same.  I think if we play the same difficulty it will probably be easiest to tabulate the results, but if we play different difficulties we might have to aggregate our times with our AI counterparts to keep the results accurate.

Lastly where difficulty is concerned, this can either be offset by choosing a driver with a perk or two (I find them to be pretty powerful) or we could make a rule that if you choose a perked driver then you have to up the difficulty by one for every additional perk he has (so a 2 perk driver would force you to run on very hard).  Anecdotally I've won races on very hard using 2 perk drivers.  Some of them are a little OP.

All of this is just spit-balling.  The priority is fun and using a system that we can finish.

Thanks for the info. I went on this morning to look at the teams and liked both Steve Ross with Vonvoll for his increased handling ability and Nick Throwtone with Forenzo for his pit crew. I don't want to hold your team back, so I'm fine if you want to race on separate teams.

I'm not sure if we can change the difficulty once we start, but if so, I'd like to race on normal for the 50's to see how it goes. We can then decide on the difficulty level for the next generation.

I'm fine with doing either Medium or Long race lengths with 3 lap qualifying, but we can do Medium if that's what you normally race on.

Ted

I normally race on long.  3 lap qualifying is fine.  Normal with 3 lap qualifier is fine; I'd rather be accommodating and get the ball rolling and have a better chance of completing the 50's to see how the experiment plays out.

You won't be holding me back and I'd prefer to be on the same team so we are competing against the field as well as each other. Your choices leave me with Andy Books or Paul Hall.  I'm fine with either so just let me know which team you go with and I'll slide in the other seat.

So, 50s, Normal, Long, 3 lap Q, and you let me know which team?

Once you start racing I think the best thing to do is take screenshots of the finish screen with finish order and times to post in the thread, and maybe add the screen with the points, but I don't think that last one is necessary.

And remember you can restart the series as many times as you want until you're happy with the results. Just gotta be finished and submitted by 4/30.

Should we start a separate thread?

Jason

I'll go with Steve Ross of Vonvoll. I'm assuming we can change teams when we switch generations?

Yes, I'll start a thread in the online board.

Ted

Yes, because not all teams and drivers are in each era and we will be unlocking others that we may want to use as we complete milestones.  Vonvoll.  I'll take his teammate.

Jason

I'm grabbing the track DLC after my last 50's race. There was also an update today, but there are no patch notes out yet. It was probably to add support for the new DLC.
