Grand Prix Legends

I'm thinking of putting a GPL career here.  Including a link to test how the journal might look and as a placeholder post.  Post will probably be edited in the future.

https://forum.digitalgamingarena.com/gallery/Grand_Prix_Legends_1967.html

My thoughts so far on the career playthrough...... (placing here so I don't have to keep rehashing in my head)

Some decisions that have been made:

1. Minimum race level is Pro because that makes damage realistic.

2. The driver file will be edited to allow for Jason to be a fictional driver and there may be others depending on final decision (B. Company, B.D. Sooner {lol}, Jake?).

3. 95% sure I want to drive the Cooper T79 even though it's an older chassis with a smaller engine.  I want to represent a privateer entry and not a factory or works team.  On the 5% chance I go with a factory team then it will most likely be the Cooper Maserati.  I am reserving the right to instead enter as a privateer with either the Brabham 11, Eagle TF1, or Lotus 33.  All of those chassis are 1105 lbs and their motors are all 2751cc except the Lotus at 1916.  The Lotus is a great car and I actually have run well with it, but the motor sound irritates me and I don't think I'd enjoy a season lapping with that in my ears.  This all may be moot as so far it seems the Championship mode can only be run by a player in a factory car, but searching the internet for a way to overcome that because the T79 is sweet.

4. The championship season will be 11 races (default)

Some decisions that need to be made

1. Length of races.  Full Grand Prix  (Two 2-hour practice sessions and races are 200-250 miles), Long (single 1-hour practice and the races are 60 to 75 miles), Short (one 30-minute practice and the races are 30 to 45 miles).  Right now I'm leaning towards short for five reasons; I'm still struggling to finish any races regardless of length due to the highly technical nature of driving the cars, and short races won't feel as daunting to attempt, and because of the inability to save mid race if I run long or grand prix lengths and need a break or can't finish the race I'd need to pause and leave the game running, and shorter races would more easily facilitate recording and editing of footage and replays, and I'll be more likely to complete at least one season of play if I go short.  In addition to the third reason, because of the age of the sim it's not possible to alt-tab out of the game to do other things so short works better in that respect..

2. Substitute another race for Monaco.  I've run a bunch here and besides the irritating corners the AI just isn't good here even though they crush me.  They run into each other and because they can't negotiate the hairpins with their animation the cars do a weird warp thing that looks bad.  There's just something wrong with this track and since I hate it anyway it can go, but no idea what to substitute for it.

3.  Do I run with the adaptive AI that adjusts to my skill level (slows them down) or do I go with the straight up invincible drivers that ran in 67.  Out of the 19 drivers there are 5 or 6 that if their car survives they are always on the podium, but in fairness those drivers in real life were always on the podium.  Since my personal goal is just to finish every race I might just leave them as is and see if I get better over the season or multiple seasons and the default AI would def be a solid benchmark.  The other side of the argument is that it's nice to be at least competitive for a possible mid-pack finish with the adaptive.  I know the car is capable since Jim Love won with this car in 67 at South Africa.

4.  Do I run some addtional non-championship races.  There were a lot of these kinds of races in 1967 as well as other series going on that these drivers and factories raced in.  Some of the tracks available online are pretty fun and it might be interesting to run some non-points races here and there.

Sounds good. Let me know if you need anything on my end.

I was wondering if the forum posts format html code so the results can be displayed within the post like they are in their own page.  I'm assuming not as everything I've tried has failed, but I know that I'm not that proficient with that kind of thing.  I ask because I have to figure out how I'll want to post updates with results and such.

Right now I'm thinking I'll have to take a screenshot of the results tables and edit it into an appropriate sized jpeg and insert it as an image.  And that's ok if that's the solution, but I just wondered if there was something available that was more "built in" that I wasn't seeing or know how to implement.  Also, I'm not asking you to change anything about the forum, just want to know if I'm missing out on a feature that's already built in.

There was an option to enable basic HTML in posts which I just enabled. You just need to wrap your HTML code in the following tags:
Your HTML code
I posted this sample below as an example.

Custom HTML Content

This paragraph is formatted using raw HTML inside an SMF post.

I'll mess with it a bit.  Thanks for enabling that.

Can you look at my posts and see what may be wrong?  It's strange that your html section formats properly and all I did was quote yours and my doesn't format like yours (besides my top post not formatting correctly)

Don't use the "Code" option/tags. I needed to do that just to display the HTML tags to show you what to use because they wouldn't display with using the Code tag. I just removed them from the beginning and the end and it worked.

Edited for cleanliness

Jason

What happens if you copy and paste exactly what's inside the Code box of your post, starting with HTML?

Jason

It may have something to do with your permissions. I'm looking into it.

Jason

HTML is only available to Administrators, but I spent two hours this morning trying to enable for everyone with no luck - I even resorted to using AI for help. I'll keep working on it.

Ted

Well I don't want you wasting your valuable free time on it so don't worry about it.  I'll figure out how to do screenshots of results and use the gallery or build simple tables.  I appreciate your efforts my friend.

I'll figure it out. It's pissing me off.

Edit: It's working now!!! Give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.

Same result and the weird part is after I post and I go to modify the html/html  that were there are removed. In fact I had to type them without the brackets because it wouldn't even show them in this sentence.
